stop me if this sounds familiar:
You know how hard your horse works. You know you can help him
by riding your best from first mile to last. But let's face it...
You’re busy. You have obligations to work and family, plus horse conditioning and care. Where does fitness fit?
You’re not sure what to do. Getting fit sounds great, in theory, but which exercises will make you a better rider?
You’re not as young as you used to be. Advancing age and accumulated injury have left you discouraged. Is it too late to regain lost ground?
You struggle to stick with it. Once your motivation wanes, you tend to give up despite your best intentions.
You can get away with it. Thanks to your horse’s strength and forgiveness, you can ride without focusing on your own fitness…at least for now.
Still... You can't quite shake the nagging feeling that
you might be the weak link in your partnership.
That's what inspired me to create
Essential Endurance Rider Fitness.
I got tired of seeing my fellow riders suffer! Just like you, many women have built their lives around horses, but lately:
- Mounting takes a little more effort…or a handy stump.
- Long rides leave your hips and lower back tight.
- You get winded during long canters.
- You finish lessons exhausted or in pain.
- You want to be more competitive, but can’t ride long, well, and fast enough to make it happen.
- Farm chores take more out of you than they used to.
- You worry that age, low energy, or injury might force you to retire from riding before you’re ready.
Leave all that frustration in the dust.
YOU CAN be "that rider" who keeps going strong
through the last miles of a ride...and the later decades of life.

you can rider stronger in a day...
and longer in your life.
Hey there, I'm Tamara
Hi! I’m an endurance rider in the northwest region of the United States.
When I was younger, general fitness kept me feeling pretty good on long rides. But when I returned to riding 100-milers in my mid-forties, I discovered it wasn’t so easy! Worse, I saw too many of my fellow distance riders struggling to stay in the sport in the face of age and injury.
I tapped my background as a National Academy of Sports Medicine-Certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Coach, and Corrective Exercise Specialist to identify the exact strength, mobility, and cardiovascular fitness that endurance riders need to go the distance. Putting them into practice launched my game to a whole new level.
Now, I’m sharing my program with active and aspiring distance riders around the globe. I specialize in helping horsewomen build the fitness they need to keep riding and caring for horses well into their later decades. Together, we can optimize our riding experience for the long haul.
I hope you’ll join me and your fellow riders for this life-changing fitness journey especially for you and your horse…because you can ride stronger in a day and longer in your life!
join the wave of horsewomen who are changing the way they ride...for good.
come along for the ride!

Inside the membership, you’ll take a simple questionnaire to determine your workout style and starting level. If you ever have questions, you’re invited to attend live Q&A calls or email me directly for guidance.
EERF members join at all different fitness and ability levels. Our current membership includes horsewomen in their mid-seventies, former Ironman triathletes, riders recovering from major injury and illness, riders combating menopause-related challenges, moms getting fit while balancing families and horses, junior riders seeking a competitive edge, endurance riders preparing for 100-mile races, and more.
If you are currently able to perform most of the basic tasks associated with horse care, you are fit enough to get started. If you have a solid fitness base already and are looking to level up and target rider-specific needs, the more advanced levels and programs are perfect for you.
It’s okay if you’re working through some physical challenges, including past injuries, bodyweight struggles, or plain old aging. As long as your doctor has cleared you to exercise, you can do this!
Our members often say things like, “This is the only fitness program I’ve ever been able to stick with!”
That’s because the Essential Endurance Rider Fitness is different from other programs. It doesn’t just assign workouts and leave you to implement them on your own. You’ll be surrounded with motivation, accountability, and support.
Inside the membership, you’ll find an active community, an engaged trainer, and educational resources to keep you encouraged and informed about why the exercises are relevant to you, as an equestrian.
The TSE Triple Crown Challenges are our members’ favorite way to stay motivated. Just when you start to slack off, there’s a new challenge about to start!
As an EERF Member, you will have access to all of The Sweaty Equestrian’s fitness programs and all other membership benefits, including active challenges, for as long as you remain a member.
Essential Endurance Rider Fitness offers flexible workout programming.
You can choose to work out from two to seven times per week, and I’ll help you prioritize which workouts to do when time is tight.
Most of the workouts are about 30 minutes long, while some of the more advanced workouts range from 40-60 minutes.
The process of conditioning our horses does, indeed, make us more fit for the sport. However…
Horses don’t require as much exercise as humans do to maintain optimal fitness. Most of us – yes, even 100-mile endurance riders – simply don’t ride long, hard, and often enough to maximize our fitness through horse time alone.
Additionally, the very nature of riding creates muscle imbalances that must be counteracted with different fitness activities. If you work at a desk to pay your feed bill, those imbalances are only getting worse!
Most of the time, riding is not intense enough to improve cardiovascular fitness and strength beyond our current levels. This goes for daily barn chores, too.
None of us are getting younger. Unless we take action to counteract the loss of muscle and bone that comes with age, we’re accepting increased injury risk and decreased longevity in equestrian sport.
Consider: Are you fitter now than you were six months of riding and farm chores ago? If not, doing more of the same won’t lead to change. You have to shake things up.
The Sweaty Equestrian’s fitness program and challenges are designed to use minimal, inexpensive equipment that you can use at home. You might have some of it already!
The full equipment list for the majority of the workouts includes: resistance bands (loop style with removable handles and door anchor); stability ball (optional); yoga mat; and foam roller. For the more advanced workouts, as well as Leaner Stronger Rider, you’ll add some dumbbells. You’ll also need a good pair of shoes and a few household items.
Your quick-start guide incudes a shopping list with links to each item, so it’s easy to get exactly what you need.
Yes. Simply download the free Teachable app on Android or iOS. When you log in, it’ll take you straight to your Sweaty Equestrian membership content.
No.
While you will have access to my Easiest-Ever Guide to Running for Riders, you’ll also have other excellent non-running, low-to-no-impact options to elevate your cardiovascular fitness benefits beyond what walking, riding, and barn chores can provide.
The Essential Endurance Rider Fitness Membership is so much more than just a rider fitness program!
My programs are designed specifically for horsewomen who need to be able to maintain good riding posture for extremely long periods, plus be able to mount from the ground, hike out of a sticky situation, trot their horses in-hand, and handle unwieldy objects like portable corral panels and buckets of water.
Most of our members are 40+, and The Sweaty Equestrian addresses challenges like aging and menopause head-on. We emphasize the importance of building extraordinary fitness now so we can continue to manage ordinary horse chores well into our later decades of life.
Most other rider fitness programs focus heavily on flexibility and core strength. We certainly include those elements, but we also focus on:
- Counteracting common muscle imbalances that cause discomfort for both horse and rider
- Building cardiovascular fitness so you use up less energy while riding and doing farm chores
- Increasing strength to support good riding posture and reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)
- Training your neuromuscular system to react appropriately to sudden challenges, like stepping in a hole or sticking a “teleport” spook
Additionally, EERF Members enjoy a unique level of personalized support. You can participate in regular challenges, join live calls with me and your fellow members, email me directly, and connect in our members-only “Crew Area” on Facebook.
Absolutely.
My fitness programs were originally designed to target the needs of my fellow endurance riders, but they are highly applicable to all kinds of equestrians. If you want to feel stronger, more balanced, and more energetic for anything from trail riding to reining to dressage, EERF offers the launchpad you need.
We welcome horsewomen from all disciplines. A few of our members don’t ride at all, but are supporting their equestrian friends and family.
Probably!
Very few of us – even “gym rats” – regularly engage in all aspects of fitness (strength training, cardio, plyometrics, mobility, and balance) that riders need. Even fewer do that in a thoughtful, progressive manner designed to promote longevity in equestrian sport. EERF fills those gaps.
We also dig into the nutrition side of the equation, especially through the Leaner Stronger Rider program. You’ll learn The Sweaty Equestrian’s Food Rules. There are only two of them, and they will get you about 80% of the benefits of quality nutrition. Plus, you’ll gain the knowledge to refine further if you wish.
No. Essential Endurance Rider Fitness is a personal fitness membership designed to complement your riding. Our programs will not teach you to ride, but they will lay the foundational balance, mobility, strength, symmetry, and cardiovascular fitness you need to ride stronger in a day and longer in your life.
The membership includes full access to my Leaner Stronger Rider Program, which is a detailed, 12-week course designed to guide you step-by-step through the process of trading unwanted bodyfat for lean, strong, metabolism-boosting muscle. Together, we’ll navigate the maze of nutrition advice and enjoy follow-along workouts that actually move the needle.
This is not a rapid fat loss program or crash diet. Instead, it’s about learning to work with your body, not against it, for sustainable change. After the 12 weeks, you’ll retain access as long as you’re a member, so you can keep progressing toward your goals.
The TSE Triple Crown is a special award (yes, one you get the actual mail!*) for completing all three major challenges in a year: the Leaner Stronger Rider Challenge at the New Year; the Stable in the Saddle Challenge in June and July; and the Rider Reset Challenge in October.
This is an award that can’t be bought…it must be earned!
Active EERF Members get tickets to all three Triple Crown challenges for free. Challenge tickets may also be purchased individually by non-members, but membership is a much better deal!
*Due to postage expense, physical awards can be mailed only to the lower 48 United States.
It's Never too early - and it's never too late - to change your life.
